Protecting Injured RFS Volunteers
RFS Commissioner Rob Rogers AFSM and RFSA President Scott Campbell signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in relation to workers compensation for RFS volunteers on 17 August.
The MoU recognises and provides support for RFS volunteers who are injured in the line of duty and require support additional to that afforded by existing workers compensation.
The first MoU was signed in 2010, and the updated agreement reiterates RFS intent to support its members in times when such support is needed and warranted. The MoU has enabled top-up payments to be made to injured RFS members across the past 12 years, and the new agreement secures this into the future.
The document also recognises the important role of the RFSA Workers Compensation Working Group, tasked with resolving administrative and policy issues, as well as advocating for members who may need additional support.
Membership of the RFSA Workers Compensation Working Group has recently been renewed, with new members appointed via an EOI process for a two-year term.
