Important changes to the ’40k rule’
Statement from NSW Rural Fire Service Association (RFSA) President Brian McDonough in response to today’s announcement of changes to the ’40k slow down rule’. A media release from the NSW Government detailing the changes is available to download below. Changes come into effect from 26 September.
“That’s why we worked extensively with the State Government to achieve the introduction of the current 40k rule.
“It’s why we support the rule continuing to apply to roads with speed limits of 80km/h and below.
“The RFSA has acknowledged that the safety of volunteer firefighters would be best protected by a change to the rule on roads with higher speed limits.
“While the particular change announced today is not the one we had preferred, I would like to acknowledge the ongoing consultation we have enjoyed with Ministers Constance, Toole and Elliott in relation to this issue.”
