Volunteers thanked at RFSA Family Day celebrations
More than 1,250 volunteer firefighters and their families gathered in Dubbo on Sunday May 1 for an event to acknowledge those who have been part of the state’s massive flood recovery effort, and to thank all volunteers for their ongoing commitment to keeping the community safe year round.
The Volunteers’ Family Day was held at Taronga Western Plains Zoo, giving members opportunity to enjoy a complimentary day out and the chance to socialise and relax with friends and family.
“We all saw the shocking scenes of devastation and destruction on our TV screens and our members saw it first-hand when they helped people get on their feet after the disaster,” said RFSA President, Scott Campbell.
“We’ve had members impacted directly, they’ve lost houses, we’ve had people have their lives just turned upside down.”
The family day event was open to firefighters from across the state.
“We had people attend from the North Coast, people from Goondiwindi, Boggabilla, Gunnedah.
“It gave us the opportunity to thank our members for their wonderful efforts in the massive recovery operation. Our Association is immensely proud of our members who pitched in and lent a hand to people who had been knocked down by such a terrible event.
“The day also provide their loved ones with the chance to celebrate their great work and tell them, ‘Well done! We are glad to have you all back’.”
