Thanking our Members on St Florian’s Day
St Florian’s Day, also known as, International Fire Fighters’ Day recognises and honours the sacrifice of Fire Fighters as they dedicate their lives to helping protect the community. RFSA President Ken Middleton said today was an opportunity to thank our Members, the men and women of the NSW Rural Fire Service, for their continued dedication to helping their community.
“We should all take moment today to reflect on the personal sacrifice our Rural Fire Fighters take each and every time they respond to the call.
“There is always a risk when you are undertaking fire fighting activities, over the years many members have been injured while on duty and others have sadly made the ultimate sacrifice as they worked to help our community during a time of most need.
“Already in 2017, unprecedented weather conditions have seen our volunteers fight fires across many parts of New South Wales, including the devastating Sir Ivan Fire in the Central West.
“More recently, our Members have assisted with recovery and cleanup after severe storms caused wide-spread flooding in the Northern Rivers region.
“Thank you for your diligence and commitment to keeping the people of NSW safe.”
