RFSA welcomes funding for PFDs and throw lines
The RFSA has welcomed yesterday’s funding announcement from the NSW Government, which will help to improve the safety of members responding to flood events.
President Scott Campbell met with the Minister in October, pressing the case that personal floatation devices and throw lines should be issued to RFS appliances. We’re delighted that yesterday’s announcement included funding for these items. There will also be additional flood-related equipment and training made available to those Brigades that are most likely to be involved in the immediate response to flooding events.
“More and more often we see that it’s RFS members who are in the thick of dealing with disasters, and not just fire. We have seen numerous occasions over the last 10 months where our members were the ones performing time critical flood rescues.
“With the announcement of this funding our members will be fitted out with the correct equipment and training to keep them safer. I applaud our Commissioner and Minister for ensuring the safety of our members,” Mr Campbell said.
