RFSA thanks brave Volunteers who fought Tathra Fires
NSW Rural Fire Service Association President Ken Middleton has today thanked the brave fire fighters who battled the devastating bushfire in Tathra.
“I want to express my thanks to the men and women who protected people and homes during this fierce blaze,” Mr Middleton said.
“From all accounts, the situation in Tathra on Sunday afternoon was catastrophic. Our members answered the call for help without fear.
“The bravery, skills and efforts of all emergency service personnel involved prevented the loss of lives and helped save dozens of homes across Tathra.
“The RFSA has received messages from people in communities across the state expressing thanks to all who fought the fires.
“The loss of 69 homes is devastating and our thoughts are with all those who lost property.
“Our highly skilled volunteers and staff work alongside members of other emergency service and land management agencies on a daily basis across the state in accordance with well-defined co-operative arrangements using each organisation’s specific skills and resources for the common purpose of helping the people of New South Wales.
“They did exactly that on Sunday afternoon.
“The focus now must be extinguishing the blaze and supporting the Tathra community as it begins the rebuilding process.”
