Nominate Now for a RFSA Scholarship
The skill levels of NSW Rural Fire Fighters will be enhanced with the awarding of the NSW Rural Fire Service Association’s (RFSA) 2014 President’s Scholarships.
The RFSA is committed to enhancing the professional and personal development of its Members, not only for their individual benefit, but for the benefit of the NSW Rural Fire Service and the broader community.
Scholarship nominations are now being received by the Association with the closing date to receive nominations – Friday, April 4, 2014. Nominations are open in five RFSA President’s Scholarship categories: Volunteer advancement,Staff advancement, Invention/Program Development, Cadet and Equity.
RFSA President, Tim Arnott said based on the studies and outcomes achieved by past scholarship recipients, the whole community of NSW benefits with first class fire fighters and researchers being produced with the assistance of the Association.
"The scholarships are open to NSW RFS volunteers and staff who are Members of the Association to undertake a wide variety of studies including different areas of firefighting, community safety, education and hazard reduction,” Mr Arnott said.
“We’ve seen past recipients take new techniques back to individual brigades and Districts, which help better protect our community from the ever present danger of fire. “There have also been a number of recipients who have completed tertiary studies or gone on to work with the NSW Rural Fire Service.”
“I recommend Members who are considering any form of further study in fire management or who want to enhance their skills and knowledge of rural firefighting to nominate for a scholarship,” Mr Arnott said.
“Some of last year’s winners have only recently commenced their studies so I would encourage people who are looking at studying in 2015 and who are Members of the RFSA to apply.
“I would like to thank the people of NSW for continuing to support our NSW RFSA raffles. Through purchasing the raffle tickets you’re helping to further protect the fire prone communities throughout the state, with a proportion of the funds raised being allocated to the provision of these annual scholarships.”
