Fire Fighters Walk for Life
Back Row: Matt Skinner, Jeff Jackson.
Front Row: Martin Whelan, Kim Norton.
On Saturday 8 September 2017, four fire fighters will set out on the third annual Fire Fighters Walk for Life to raise funds for the NSW Cancer Council.
Walking approximately 280km from the NSW Rural Fire Fighter Headquarters in Lidcombe in Western Sydney to Lochinvar in the Lower Hunter is Jeff Jackson, Kim Norton, Matt Skinner and Martin Whelan.
Jeff is a member of Lochinvar Rural Fire Brigade whilst Matt, Kim and Martin are from Thornton Rural Fire Brigade.
Jeff said the contingent planned to arrive in Lochinvar around lunchtime on the following Saturday.
“We are currently sitting on around $16,000 raised, with a hope to get to $28,000 for the Cancer Council,” said Jeff.
“This is our third year fundraising and over the past two years we have raised $51,000, which we are incredibly proud of.
The Fire Fighters Walk For Life group was established in 2015 by Jeff and fellow Lochinvar Rural Fire Brigade member Michael Gillis, following the passing away of a well respected local fire inspector to cancer. Also within the brigade were a number of members and family members that were undertaking their own personal battles with cancer.
The fire fighters will be pushing a wheelie bin throughout the journey for supporters to deposit direct donations. Alternatively, to donate online to the Fire Fighters Walk for Life please visit: http://firefighterswalkforlife.org/
