Cost Effective Internet Access Option for Brigade Stations
NSW RFS Brigades can now access a sustainable and cost-effective internet provider option to Brigade stations through Telstra.
As a result of a Business Paper submitted to the NSW RFS/NSW RFSA Infrastructure Services Consultative Committee, the Service approached Telstra and has been provided with three plan options available at NSW RFS contract rates. The IP service is provided through Telstra Business Broadband ADSL.
Brian McDonough, Deputy Chair, Infrastructure Services Consultative Committee, said the committee was pleased with the result in response to the RFSA Business Paper ‘Cost Effective Internet Access at Brigade Stations’.
“Reliable and efficient internet access is a helpful tool in modern day fire fighting.
“Increasingly the communication landscape relies on access to the internet and that includes both receiving information from, and administering information to, the local community.
“The first thing many people do when seeking information is to go online or visit social media channels.
“Cost-effective internet access for the majority of all NSW RFS Brigades means our fire fighters can have the ability to relay important information and updates to the public online.”
Mr McDonough said reliable internet can also facilitate communications between those at the Brigade station and fire fighters on the ground.
