For more than 100 years the Rural Fire Service in NSW has been a significant part of the State's history and landscape. The organisation is made up of more than 70,000 volunteers operating in more than 2100 brigades, supported by 700 staff of the NSW RFS.
The Rural Fire Service in NSW is the lead combat agency for bush fires in NSW, responding to a range of emergencies including bush fires, structure fires, motor vehicle accidents and floods 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The organisation is widely acknowledged as the largest volunteer fire service in the world. It is a professional organisation, with Members trained to very high levels of competency.
Members come from a vast range of professional and social backgrounds and they bring these valuable skills to the work of protecting their communities.
