Young Members Group

The number of young people within the RFS is growing and will continue to grow over the coming years, particularly as increased emphasis is placed on the attraction and retention of members to the age of 25 years.

The Membership Services Consultative Committee endorsed the establishment of the Young Members Group, an advisory group for young Members to provide an effective channel of communication between young Members of the RFS and the broader membership, also providing an avenue for developing partnerships and leadership skills.

Sponsored by the RFSA, the Young Members Group ensures the RFS:

  • respects the opinions and ideas of young Members
  • recognises the knowledge and expertise of young Members
  • provides young Members an interest or stake in the direction of the RFS
  • does not make assumptions about young peoples' interests and allows them to define what issues are important to them.

The membership of the Young Members Group comprises:

  • nine young volunteer Members between the ages of 18 and 25
  • one RFS staff Member providing secretariat support to the group
  • one senior RFS staff Member acting as the ex-officio Member of the group.

If you are 18-25 years old, a volunteer with the NSW RFS and are interested in finding out more about the Young Members Group, email the Young Members Group at youngmembersgroup@rfs.nsw.gov.au, or alternatively, contact the NSW RFS Youth Development Officer on (02) 8741 5115.
